Creating Our Publishing Group

University Project:
Creating my manga- For my second year university project I have to create a comic which is primarily aimed to be sold at MCM London comic con this coming summer. This blog will show my progress and decisions during the process of my work, i would love feedback and your support.
I will be working with six other people in this publishing group that we create, but the script, illustration, characters and idea's will all be an independent project, created solely by myself. (with feed back and improvements taken from others suggestions of course!)

Stoke Con Trent Review

Selling at Stoke-on-Trent is now my fourth convention to sell at, and although reasonably quiet still pulled a reasonable profit of £69.50. Surprisingly the thing that was most popular was a 7 postcard set of the BTS members which where £1 each or all 7 for £5. The deal seemed go down a treat, selling out of all prints including the display ones before we packed up. Other than that, two Haikyuu Kageyama A4 digital prints sold, plus several key rings and stickers. On previous experiences I had disagreeable table partners or have tabled on my own. This time around however, I ended up tabling with a friend of mine, whom will be my partner for comic con too. This was our practice set up and experiment on how we work together and i have to admit it went well! Other than her forgetting one or two things at the beginning and having to return home to get them, everything went according to plan. However this is what it was for, this is the time to make mistakes and learn from them. I fe...

Bone Rank System

I thought, since it is quite prominent in my story, that i would delve into the Korean Silla Dynasty's bone rank system  to get a clear understanding of just what it means. The Bone Rank System, so called because it was based on a person’s hereditary bloodline, was introduced as part of a new law  in 520 CE by king Beophung. However,  GolPum system was technically abolished with the fall of Unified Silla in 935. This is the simplest diagram I could find which explained the kind of standing that people had, and how it corroborated with their title. First of, a Sunggol or 'Sacred Bone' They have to be directly related to royalty on BOTH sides of their parents. Up until King Muyeol, only a Sunggol could ascend to the throne. It was due to the lack of an adequate male Sunggol which made it possible for both Queen Seon Duk and Queen Jindeok to ascend to the throne. They were the last of the Sunggols. Jingol 진골 also known as “True Bone” refers to som...

Conclusion

Conclusion: This project has been a first for me in terms of completing a entire start to end comic in a standard which would be acceptable to publish.  Looking back over the project there are a couple areas I would probably have tweaked in order to save time, and make the work process a little cleaner and more efficient, such as more research on specific topics or do slightly more planning on locations and size proportions of characters to the surrounding backgrounds and such. But either way I have found this to be a successful project, and have come out the other end with something I am actually proud of. As I am naturally very critical of my own work, there are pages I wish I had changed a little, improved the artwork or colouring technique on. But I feel it is a healthily low number, so it shouldn’t affect my confidence when pitching it and trying to get people as invested in the characters as I am. With Stoke-Con now under my belt, refreshing my mind to what tabling really en...
