Logo Concept and Design

LOGO CONCEPT AND DESIGN  -  FANTASY

First of all I did my initial research for the names that I liked, as we are a fantasy group we wanted something that reflected this theme. It needed to be suitable for the use on a variety of different combined Fantasy genres (Horror, Romance, Action etc.)

The ideas I came up with where:
(Side note: All have Publishing House ending it)

Zezura - Meaning: It is said to be the name of a mystical city filled with treasure in the middle of the Sahara with a sleeping king and queen. It is guarded by giants.

Lemuria - Meaning: A mythical lost country located variously in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

Reverie - Meaning: In a state of a peaceful, pleasant and enjoyable daydream.

Elysian Fields - Meaning: It is a paradise described in Greek mythology where heroes, Greek God decedents and those deemed worthy go to live a virtuous life after death.

Empyrean - Meaning: Heaven, Happiness, Dreamland, Celestial and Paradise.

Ceto - Meaning: She is a Greek primordial sea goddess ( aka sea monster) and the daughter of Gaia and Pontus.

Yuxa - Meaning: A legendary creature from Tatar folklore that disguises as a damsel in distress, beguiling men into marrying her so she could beget offspring. Her true form is a creature with a dragons head, a reptilian body and two legs and a barbed tail. It is believed that every 100 yearold snake transforms into one of these creatures.

I threw my ideas into the mix, and others added their suggestions too. The following where my personal favourite:
Anubis Comics
Drago Comix
Obsidian Comics
Calamity Comixs

Through a poll we decided on Elysian Fields Publishing House, and we set to work on our initial concept ideas!
Here were some existing designs which I found particularly interesting, which provided me with inspiration to create my own.

I also looked into font sheets and calligraphy designs in relation to fantasy:
After  this I decided to try my hand at creating my own designs for it! Below are the initial designs I came up with.

My group then shared our designs, and we decided to try and combine them together. The combination I created ended up being voted for in the poll as well! These where the designs I chose to combine.
With Viki's design I chose to lift the font, as it was nicely structured and well balanced, but also looked clean and easy to read. All of which are needed for a logo, so it can be sized down and still readable.

The next thing I decided to take was Josh's design of the letter 'E'. I really liked the idea of the integration of the Greek architecture due to the origin of the name. The pillar and shadow manage to look not only like the letter 'E' but a smooth design, which I thought would flow into the font.

This was my personal favourite design.

For the final design we had one other option created by another member, (shown below) which we was put into the poll.

The final design I selected was one from my own concept art, i received positive feedback from my group about the use of the triangle so I lifted that and tried to combine all three elements into one logo!

Here is the quick draft I sketched in order to enter it into the poll for selecting the final design, which also got selected.

Now to make it neat! Next up I decided to draw a font sheet page so I could create all the correct measurements, spacing and arrangement balance, but also so the others would have a base to use to try colour schemes on. As I didn't have access to a tablet at the time of developing this, I outlined and coloured the logo by mouse point and the digital software CLIPPAINTSTUDIO. Below shows the process I went through.

Next up is the colouring process, I decided to go through several different colour themes, mainly changing the fading colour on the bulk text. The colour themes I used where:
Black
Blue
Gold
Pink
Red

And so our logo was created!

Bone Rank System

I thought, since it is quite prominent in my story, that i would delve into the Korean Silla Dynasty's bone rank system  to get a clear understanding of just what it means. The Bone Rank System, so called because it was based on a person’s hereditary bloodline, was introduced as part of a new law  in 520 CE by king Beophung. However,  GolPum system was technically abolished with the fall of Unified Silla in 935. This is the simplest diagram I could find which explained the kind of standing that people had, and how it corroborated with their title. First of, a Sunggol or 'Sacred Bone' They have to be directly related to royalty on BOTH sides of their parents. Up until King Muyeol, only a Sunggol could ascend to the throne. It was due to the lack of an adequate male Sunggol which made it possible for both Queen Seon Duk and Queen Jindeok to ascend to the throne. They were the last of the Sunggols. Jingol 진골 also known as “True Bone” refers to som...

Stoke Con Trent Review

Selling at Stoke-on-Trent is now my fourth convention to sell at, and although reasonably quiet still pulled a reasonable profit of £69.50. Surprisingly the thing that was most popular was a 7 postcard set of the BTS members which where £1 each or all 7 for £5. The deal seemed go down a treat, selling out of all prints including the display ones before we packed up. Other than that, two Haikyuu Kageyama A4 digital prints sold, plus several key rings and stickers. On previous experiences I had disagreeable table partners or have tabled on my own. This time around however, I ended up tabling with a friend of mine, whom will be my partner for comic con too. This was our practice set up and experiment on how we work together and i have to admit it went well! Other than her forgetting one or two things at the beginning and having to return home to get them, everything went according to plan. However this is what it was for, this is the time to make mistakes and learn from them. I fe...

Double Page Research

Double Pages One of my double page spreads will be a continuous image exploding across the page. I have researched some of existing ones to see how they appear within existing books. Some are a continuous image, others have a bar of white down the middle to show where the page divides. This is to stop some of the artwork being lost in the binding. I think this approach is actually quite clever as it does preserve the artwork. I have drawn it on one A3 page, so that it divides up on 2 A4's or A5's. But I was concerned on how it would be seen on the page when contained within a book.
