Cover/ Logo Claire's Session

Logo Developing: Learning what makes a good logo.
In Friday's lessons we where looking at logo designs. we where given a random two slips of paper and had to create a company around it. Our groups was the elderly and bicycles. we had a brain storm of ideas for names, logo designs and what not, ended up choosing comfort light as the name and the logo that i created. For the logo i wanted to make sure that it was a clear and easy symbol that is recognisable as a bike, but also symbolise the accommodation it has been adapted for the elderly's use. Hence the addition of the wing, as feathers are a known soft item, and it plays well to the company's name 'Light'. It was received well by the tutors but the summary of the premise and aim of the company could have been improved on when we were delivering it.

Book Cover: What goes into making a successful cover.
The following Friday we where working on how to develop a successful cover for a story. Once again we where given prompts which where:
Target: Young Adult
Title: Decedents of Yesterday
Genre: Thriller

All members of the group designed different variants and then voted for their favourites. There was a little bit of tension as the one that I thought was most fitting was one of my own, and was supported by some of the other members. However, as my designs often get picked it was obvious that they wanted a change so we went along with it.
These where the design ideas of all the group members.

This was the design that they decided on and was submitted, however it wasn't received entirely well by the tutors. They mentioned the writing was messy, the colours where dull and the smaller watches weren't clear that they where pocket watches. There was also the addition of the fact the title was changed to 'Time' rather than 'Yesterday'. Finally the tutors made a couple of comments that they preferred the idea of the covers featuring the gears, one of which was the design I wanted to submit. But it all was a learning curve for the members and myself included. Below is the design:

Bone Rank System

I thought, since it is quite prominent in my story, that i would delve into the Korean Silla Dynasty's bone rank system  to get a clear understanding of just what it means. The Bone Rank System, so called because it was based on a person’s hereditary bloodline, was introduced as part of a new law  in 520 CE by king Beophung. However,  GolPum system was technically abolished with the fall of Unified Silla in 935. This is the simplest diagram I could find which explained the kind of standing that people had, and how it corroborated with their title. First of, a Sunggol or 'Sacred Bone' They have to be directly related to royalty on BOTH sides of their parents. Up until King Muyeol, only a Sunggol could ascend to the throne. It was due to the lack of an adequate male Sunggol which made it possible for both Queen Seon Duk and Queen Jindeok to ascend to the throne. They were the last of the Sunggols. Jingol 진골 also known as “True Bone” refers to som...

Creating Our Publishing Group

University Project: Creating my manga- For my second year university project I have to create a comic which is primarily aimed to be sold at MCM London comic con this coming summer. This blog will show my progress and decisions during the process of my work, i would love feedback and your support. I will be working with six other people in this publishing group that we create, but the script, illustration, characters and idea's will all be an independent project, created solely by myself. (with feed back and improvements taken from others suggestions of course!) Tuesday 24th April: Salesmanship

On Tuesday we had a lecture on how to sell and present yourself at comic con. It was quite a helpful session. In terms of presenting my work on the stall we where shown the shoe cubes, and acrylic book stands (i already own both) but also a wooden print display i we ended up having large A3 prints. But as i am planning to stay within the A4/A5 spectrum I think I will leave it for now. Packaging wise I still don't know what i will be getting. We where shown examples of both paper and plastic bags. Although I see the branding advantages of using plastic bags, they seem to be a little out of my price range. As a group we where already planning on creating a banner for behind the table, but this reconfirmed how good it is to have one, and how it can draw attention to the table. I am unsure what table cloth well end up using as a group but I assume it will be black since it compliments all of our comics.  Arrangement wise, Millie and myself are going to be the pair who goes i...
