On Tuesday we had a lecture on how to sell and present yourself at comic con. It was quite a helpful session.
In terms of presenting my work on the stall we where shown the shoe cubes, and acrylic book stands (i already own both) but also a wooden print display i we ended up having large A3 prints. But as i am planning to stay within the A4/A5 spectrum I think I will leave it for now. Packaging wise I still don't know what i will be getting. We where shown examples of both paper and plastic bags. Although I see the branding advantages of using plastic bags, they seem to be a little out of my price range.
As a group we where already planning on creating a banner for behind the table, but this reconfirmed how good it is to have one, and how it can draw attention to the table. I am unsure what table cloth well end up using as a group but I assume it will be black since it compliments all of our comics.
Arrangement wise, Millie and myself are going to be the pair who goes in to set everything on Thursday before the con starts. As a group we will discuss methods on what we want our table to look like and who's work will be where. Though Claire recommended that we don't make our stand to high. We will probably have 23 prints per person if they have them, and one of two extra items such as stickers, bookmarks or key rings.
As far as salesmanship goes, i want to attempt the friendly and open approach. Greeting everyone with a smile. Both Millie and I think this is the best method to being approachable and interesting for people to come and see. Sarah on the other hand will be trying a more outspoken hands on approach, trying to grab peoples attention and such. I am not sure how the others will approach this, but I hope it all goes well either way.
As mentioned by the lecturers mentioned, taking an interest in the customers day, appearance (cosplay) and interests could encourage them to buy our things. For this reason I plan to do simple cosplay's of some pretty well known characters (Rin from Fate/Stay Night and Taiga from Toradora) as they might help people have a conversation starter, saying that they recognise the character and such. I have chosen them carefully so they wont interfere with my ability to move around the table or sell the comics.
Hopefully the stall will be a success and everyone's pairs work out well. We will be doing morning, afternoon and evening shifts, but we will decide who is doing what nearer the time. With any luck everything will go smoothly.
