Cover/ Logo Claire's Session

Logo Developing: Learning what makes a good logo. In Friday's lessons we where looking at logo designs. we where given a random two slips of paper and had to create a company around it. Our groups was the elderly and bicycles. we had a brain storm of ideas for names, logo designs and what not, ended up choosing comfort light as the name and the logo that i created. For the logo i wanted to make sure that it was a clear and easy symbol that is recognisable as a bike, but also symbolise the accommodation it has been adapted for the elderly's use. Hence the addition of the wing, as feathers are a known soft item, and it plays well to the company's name 'Light'. It was received well by the tutors but the summary of the premise and aim of the company could have been improved on when we were delivering it. Book Cover: What goes into making a successful cover. The following Friday we where working on how to develop a successful cover for a story. Once again we

Front Cover

Designing my front cover! Using Medibang as the main source for adding colour, I am beyond pleased with the outcome. Using one of my perspective drawings of the shrine I designed, I chose an area I wanted it to be situated. I want to include the three main characters, but not the extra's s of yet, i want them to remain in the story alone. I went through the roughest sketch through to line art and colour all digitally. I had this idea for the cover since the beginning and finally getting to draw it is exciting. For the rough sketch I used Clip Studio Paint EX, Line art was Paint Tool SAI, Colouring was Medi Band and the final effects where added with Photoshop CS6. I am really pleased with the final outcome, it is quite brightly coloured and at an interesting angled, but isn't too busy or overwhelming. I think the composition is just about right in terms of balance, and quite effective with the sunset backdrop. For the title the disjointed font is qui

Character Designs

Character Designs! The process I went through when designing all of the recurring characters in my story. For the three main characters I produced a three turn view sheet, whilst the less used characters only have one front view. These will mainly be used for clothing reference, as I wont be drawing them repeatedly much, unlike for the main characters. Next up is how i am going to go about designing my characters. Characters needed: Ronin Akue Juno Head Monk Orphans I have decided to go for the manga style however I am looking into specific styling to what I want them to appear like continuously through the comic. After thorough research, I compiled some of my favourite coloured digital art which can be used for the character bases and cover. From this I can reference what I like and dislike and help develop my own style ready for the manga itself. First up is Ronin's design. He is an orphan, roughly around 13/14 years, who has a history of liv

Story Placement: Era, Country and Reality

Deciding where my story will take place! Ishi no Kokoro is a tale following the path of twins that are effected by the curse of the long forgotten generations. Fighting, Alchemy and forms of magic do exist, along with mythical creatures, demons and human hybrids. I am slightly unsure to what era or even land it will take lace in, nor how advance their living technology is (lights, computers etc). This post is to show possible ideas exploration into existing eras. I want to look into what has been and might yet to come before I go and design an entirely new world. The areas/ era's I can vision my characters in are the English Victorian era, but like the dark side underbelly of it. i mainly like the architecture within this time period. Imperial China, Edo Japan or the third kingdom in the Korean dynasty Silla are the other areas I want to look into. First up is the Victorian era in England. I personally have always had a affection for this time period, and although the time

Biddulph Grange Gardens 3rd of Feburary Visit

Biddulph Grange Gardens 3rd of February visit Today I visited the Biddulph Grange Gardens today in order to gather reference for my story and its placement in time. The national trust has adopted and preserved a Victorian manor house and the worldly themed gardens. I was primarily interested in the Chinese gardens however they also had gardens themed on the Egyptians, Italians and more. It was really helpful to see all the different possible buildings and take photos at angles that aren't necessarily provided on an internet google search. The scenery was beautiful and full of extraordinary looking things. Below is some of the hundreds of photos that I took. Hopefully this will help provide a clearer understanding for myself in terms of scale, design and aesthetics. Nature has always been one of my weakest points in drawing, if i am copying an existing landscape replicating it is not a problem. However, creating my own is another story entire

Claire Session : 30th Janurary

Speech bubble and lettering session. For this session we focused on the correct placement of bubbles within the panels, but also how arranging and splitting up block text can help a story flow with a better pace. Once the power point was concluded and the different types of scripting text along side the images within a comic. Our first task was to identify and illustrate the different types of text placement with the prompt omelette. Next up our task was a follow on script from our first year lecture, on the similar subject, with the characters Sharon and Steve. They are consistently at war with one another about Steve's lack or responsibility towards paying the lighting bill. Here is the script we where given, alongside my brief notes. Next I went onto the planning stage, looking at layouts and text placement. Once decided I moved onto drawing it in a large thumbnail sketch (A5 in size)  As the large amount of the text was at the beginning when the lights

Janurary 31st Meeting Report

Wednesday Meeting Janurary 31st Report Summary Our wednesday meeting was a general check up on where everyone was on their projects and also to discuss travel arrangements. Most members were present.  Things that are required but not yet achieved: Millie and Vicky to do blog, as well as send a picture and short bio (along with blog link) so that the website can be updated.  All members need to select (can be updated with the cover further down the line) an image to represent their respective stories and write a brief synopsis. Member reports: Jaz is still in the research stage but heading towards the character design aspect. Millie is starting her research into her story. Josh is up to date on research and now focusing on character design. Sarah researching and designing her characters. I am up to date on my research, excluding the photo references I plan to get when visiting the Biddulph Gardens this weekend. My characters are designed and I am half way th

Social Media

Social Media Platforms Our main platforms for social media are Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and our Wix website. We all have our individual time schedules on when to post throughout the day which can be any day and any platform: 8:30 am- 10 am = Sarah 11 am - 1 pm = Josh 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm = Myself  4 pm - 6 pm = Vicky 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm = Millie 9 pm - 11pm = Jaz I organised this system to fit in with the new algorithm which is being enforced by most social media platforms with recent updates. Other groups assigned each day, ours is a little more complicated, however with reason. This stops favouritism between artists, so that followers would only look at a specific day, but also gets around the issue of pages becoming large chunks of one artists work. Instead we get to post regularly and gradually, reaching a much wider audience. The reason there is a half hour gap between each slot is to stop post layering, because as soon as a new post is submitted the old one is a

Social Media Banner

Social Media Banner! For platforms such as Facebook and Twitter there is an option to have a backing cover photo for your page. I took on responsibility for designing the layout and selecting the artwork once my team members had sent their artworks over to me. Important things to note when creating a banner: It needs to be clear, but not jarred. All images need to flow into one another. Any titles, names or general lettering, if related to a specific image, needs to be obviously placed. This is so there  will be no confusion as to whom the artwork belongs to if someone is attracted to it. Lettering itself needs to be clear, bold and in a neat font, so it can be read no matter the size. Colour gradient. Not to many clashing colours next to each other.  Correct measurements to be used so it isn't cut off or squished. Images my team gave me to work with, the red dots indicated the ones I chose . The two primarily present colours where red and purple. I got roughly two
